Hawkesbury wins tough contest against Pembroke, 4-3

The Hawkesbury Hawks gutted out a close 4-3 win against the Pembroke Lumber Kings.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Tristan Perreault-Gagnon at 7:57 of the third period.

Hawkesbury got the win on the strength of a great game by Perreault-Gagnon, who had two goals and one assist. Perreault-Gagnon scored the first of his two goals at 5:18 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Jonathan Cyr picked up the assist. Perreault-Gagnon's next tally made the score 4-3 Hawkesbury with 12:03 left in the third period. Chris Harper provided the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 4:52 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Hawks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Hawkesbury kept Pembroke's goalie busy throughout the game, and Joel Horodziejczyk made 32 saves on 36 shots.

Others who scored for Hawkesbury included Ross Mandigo and Hunter Racine, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Hawkesbury were Pierre Ouellette, Jason Brochu, and CJ Stubbs, who each chipped in one.

The Lumber Kings forced the Hawks goalie Gunner Rivers to work between the pipes, taking 50 shots.

Pembroke was helped by Liam Biard, who had one goal. Biard scored 4:27 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pembroke. Colton Keuhl picked up the assist. Pembroke also had goals scored by Adam Dauda and Owen McDade, who each put in one. In addition, Pembroke received assists from Dylan Chase, Zachary Borsoi, and Justin Felhaber, who contributed one each.

Hawkesbury's Rivers stopped 47 shots out of the 50 that he faced. The Hawks totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Team's Liam Alcalde and David Cyr were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Lumber Kings ended with 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors. For Pembroke, Keuhl and Chris Minns were ejected from the contest.
