Carleton Place blows out Smiths Falls, 6-0

The Carleton Place Canadians had a five-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-0 win over the Smiths Falls Bears.

Carleton Place pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 16 penalty minutes.

The Canadians were sparked by Stephen Baylis, who finished with one goal and one assist. Baylis scored 8:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Carleton Place. AJ Klein picked up the assist.

Carleton Place forced Smiths Falls' goalies to work all game long, firing 43 shots and forcing 37 saves. Cole Skinner made 22 stops and Michael Pinios made 15. The Canadians stifled the Bears' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Carleton Place's defensive effort looked to be improved. The Canadians allow 2.4 goals per game. Carleton Place bested its season scoring average. This season, the Canadians average 3.8 goals per contest.

Carleton Place also got points from Connor Merkley, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Carleton Place included Jordan Larson, who had two and Adam Lloyd and Craig Pefley, who each put in one. More assists for Carleton Place came via Brett Garvey, who had two and Alex Vala, Andy Sturtz, Bryce VanHorn, Andrew Dodson, and Nicolas Mucci, who each chipped in one.

Smiths Falls was held below its usual level of production. The Bears put an average of 2.4 pucks into the net per game.

Adrian Clark rejected 18 shots on goal for Carleton Place. The Canadians registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For Carleton Place, Sturtz was ejected from the game. Smiths Falls incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
