Pearson's hat trick boosts Ottawa over Cumberland, 7-4

Rockland CIHA    Fri, Oct 03, 2014

The Cumberland Grads could not stop the Ottawa Senators' Jim Pearson, who tallied a hat trick in a 7-4 win.

Pearson got on the scoresheet 18:18 into the first period. He then added goals at 22 seconds into the third and at 6:45 into the third.

Ottawa put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Cumberland to score on any of its four power plays. The Grads were unable to stop the Senators from sending pucks towards the net, and Ottawa eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. The Senators found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Ottawa has scored at the pace of 3.6 goals per game during the current campaign.

Ottawa additionally got points from Joey Champigny, who also registered two goals and one assist and Zach Car, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Isaac Anderson also scored for Ottawa. Other players who recorded assists for Ottawa were Derek Varrin, who had two, Robert Michel, who had three, and Matthew Cruickshank, Sean Rappleyea, Carl Faucher, and Geoffrey Lawson, who each chipped in one.

The Grads were helped by Cody Kyle, who had one goal. Kyle scored 16:27 into the third period to make the score 6-4 Ottawa. Brett Faber picked up the assist. Cumberland also had goals scored by Bobby Williams, Reid Murphy, and Matthew Morin, who each put in one. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Nicolas Mattinen, Travis Douglas, Thomas Mansbridge, and Martin Frechette, who contributed one each.
