Carleton Place outlasts Kemptville, 4-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Carleton Place Canadians escaped with a 4-3 victory over the Kemptville 73s.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Wesley Baker's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Baker was all over the ice for Carleton Place, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Baker scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:09 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Carleton Place. The Canadians had gotten the advantage when Kemptville's Tyler Young was sent off for hooking. Stephen Baylis provided the assist. Baker's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Carleton Place with 12:56 left in the third period. Andy Sturtz picked up the assist.

Carleton Place pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 12 penalty minutes.

The Canadians' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Kemptville power plays. Carleton Place forced the 73s goalie Jacob Tugnutt to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Carleton Place also got points from Sturtz, who also had one goal and one assist. Carleton Place also got a goal from Adam Lloyd as well. Other players who recorded assists for Carleton Place were Devin Campbell, who had one and Willie Brooks, who had two.

Kemptville kept the Canadians' goalie busy throughout the game, and Adrian Clarke made 30 saves on 33 shots.

The 73s were helped by Rob Grant, who registered one goal. Grant scored 11:06 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Carleton Place. Jake Gaudet provided the assist. Others who scored for Kemptville included Olivier Chabot and Shawn Cameron, who each put in one. In addition, Kemptville received assists from Dean Galasso, who had two and Kaelan OFlynn and Brandon Cole, who each chipped in one.

Carleton Place registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Kemptville's Tugnutt stopped 28 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The 73s incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
