Carleton Place downs Smiths Falls in overtime, 7-6 (OT)

The Carleton Place Canadians pulled out a 7-6 (OT) overtime victory over the Smiths Falls Bears on a clutch goal by Stephen Baylis.

Carleton Place came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Canadians was down 6-4 after a power play goal by Smiths Falls' Karson McCartney at 17:03 in the second period. Carleton Place knotted things up at 6-6 on a goal by Andy Sturtz at 19:01 in the third period.

Sturtz and Baylis provided the spark for the Canadians, combining for two goals and three assists. Sturtz tallied one goal and three assists and Baylis also added one goal.

Carleton Place forced the Bears goalie Michael Pinios to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. The Canadians' goal total was higher than their season average. Carleton Place averages 3.8 goals per game. The Canadians' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in two goals to Smiths Falls' power play unit. Carleton Place's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Canadians average 2.5 goals allowed per game.

Carleton Place also got points from Wesley Baker, who also registered one goal and one assist and Andrew Dodson, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Carleton Place included Adam Lloyd, Connor Merkley, and Jordan Larson, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Carleton Place were Owen Grant, Tyson Stewart, Craig Pefley, and Brayden Stortz, who each chipped in one.

The Bears bested their season scoring average. This season, Smiths Falls averages 2.9 goals per contest.

The Bears were led by Taylor Henry, who tallied two goals and one assist. Henry scored the first of his two goals at 5:12 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Smiths Falls. Henry's next tally made the score 3-1 Smiths Falls with 6:19 left in the first period. Nicolas Coates assisted on the tally. Smiths Falls additionally got points from Coates, who also racked up one goal and one assist and McCartney, who also registered one goal and one assist. Smiths Falls also had goals scored by Brandon Lesway and Michael McKenney, who scored one goal each. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Jared Henry, Domenic Camastra, Daniel Lombardi, and Josh Leblanc, who contributed one each.

Guillaume Therien made three saves before being replaced by Adrian Clarke, who took the win and made 15 saves. Carleton Place incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Michael Pinios made 33 saves for Smiths Falls on 40 shots. The Bears incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
