A stellar performance between the pipes by Ian Andriano helped the Ottawa Senators defeat the Carleton Place Canadians, 4-1. Ottawa was paced by Robert Michel, who racked up one goal and one assist. Michel scored on the power play 9:09 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Ottawa. The Senators had gained a power play chance when Bryce VanHorn was whistled for hooking. Zach Car provided the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 19:17 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Ottawa forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 17.0 minutes per game the Senators had been spending in the box. Ottawa also got points from Brendan Valko, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Ottawa included Alexandre Way and Derek Varrin, who scored one goal each. In addition, Ottawa received assists from Shawn Lynch, who had two and Matthew Cruickshank, Sean Rappleyea, and Chandler Watson, who each chipped in one. Carleton Place's offense operated below its season average. The Canadians put an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. Ian Andriano made 26 saves for Ottawa on 27 shots. The Senators registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Team's Varrin and Geoffrey Lawson were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Carleton Place's Adrian Clarke stopped 17 shots out of the 21 that he faced. The Canadians totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. For Carleton Place, Devin Campbell was ejected from the game. |
