Hawkesbury erases deficit to stun Kemptville, 7-5

The Hawkesbury Hawks climbed out of a three-goal hole to beat the Kemptville 73s, 7-5.

Hawkesbury never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Hawks fell behind 4-1 after a goal by Kemptville's Shawn Cameron at 2:48 in the second period. Hawkesbury knotted things up at 5-5 on a power play goal by Hunter Racine at 16:06 in the third period. The Hawks scored the game winner at 17:24 in the third period on a goal by Racine.

Racine had two goals and two assists to lead Hawkesbury. Racine scored the first of his two goals at 11:29 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Kemptville. Jason Brochu picked up the assist. Racine's next tally made the score 5-5 with 3:54 left in the third period. The Hawks earned a power play opportunity when Jesse Blais was put in the box for slashing. Phil Johansson provided the assist.

The 73s were unable to stop Hawkesbury from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hawks eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. Hawkesbury surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Hawks average 3.5 goals per contest.

Hawkesbury additionally got points from Brochu, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Ross Mandigo, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Hawkesbury included Brandon Barillaro, Chris Harper, and Liam Alcalde, who scored one goal each. In addition, Hawkesbury received assists from Damien Charette, Rory Gagnon, and CJ Stubbs, who contributed one each.

Kemptville forced Hawkesbury's goalies to work between the pipes, racking up 40 shots and forcing 35 saves. Daniel Potter made 30 stops and Jean-Pascal Sabourin made five.

The 73s were helped by Daniel Monk, who tallied one goal and one assist. Monk scored 58 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kemptville. Jake Gaudet picked up the assist. Kemptville also got points from Gaudet, who also registered one goal and one assist and Cameron, who also had one goal and one assist. Kemptville also had goals scored by Tyson Kirkby and Owen Guy, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Kemptville were Aaron Hickie, Olivier Chabot, Alex Row, and Jacob Tugnutt, who each chipped in one.

The Hawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Tugnutt rejected 31 shots on goal for Kemptville. The 73s incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
