Carleton Place vanquishes Kanata in shootout, 2-1 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Carleton Place Canadians defeated the Kanata Stallions in a shootout 2-1 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams. Kanata's shootout goal was scored by Nic Marchand. Carleton Place also got a shootout goal from Wesley Baker.

The Canadians came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Carleton Place fell behind 1-0 after a goal by the Stallions' Tyler ONeill at 1:42 in the first period. The Canadians knotted things up at 1-1 on a goal by Stephen Baylis at 7:55 in the second period.

Carleton Place was led by goalie Adrian Clarke, who finished with 27 saves while allowing one goal.

The Canadians put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Kanata to score on any of its five power plays. The Stallions were unable to stop Carleton Place from sending pucks towards the net, and the Canadians eventually piled up 49 shots on goal. Carleton Place could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 18 minutes in penalties during the game.

In addition, Carleton Place received assists from AJ Klein and Connor Merkley, who each chipped in one.

Kanata's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Carleton Place power plays.

More assists for Kanata came via Ian Johnston and Cameron Rodziwon, who contributed one each.

Cole Skinner rejected 47 shots on goal for the Stallions. Kanata incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
