Ottawa holds on for 5-3 win against Brockville

The Ottawa Senators survived a determined comeback attempt by the Brockville Braves on the way to a 5-3 win.

Ottawa took a 5-1 lead during the third period, only to have Brockville storm back on a Tre Folkes goal 18:08 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

The Senators got the win behind a great game by Shawn Lynch, who had two goals and one assist. Lynch scored the first of his two goals short handed at 7:51 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Ottawa. Ottawa played down a man on Ryan Cranford's head contact. Joey Champigny assisted on the tally. Lynch's next tally short handed made the score 5-1 Ottawa with 17:57 left in the third period. Brendan Valko picked up the assist.

The Senators kept the Braves' goalie busy throughout the game, and David Poirier made 27 saves on 32 shots. Ottawa outdid its season average for goals scored. The Senators have scored at the pace of 2.3 goals per game during the current campaign. Ottawa could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 18 minutes in penalties during the game.

Ottawa also got points from Zach Car, who also had one goal and one assist. Ottawa also had goals scored by Robert Michel and Carl Faucher, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Ottawa were Cody Bean, who had two and Matthew Cruickshank, Johnathan Kovacevic, and Thomas Crevier, who contributed one each.

Brockville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Senators to score on any of their three power plays.

The Braves were led by Sean King, who racked up one goal and one assist. King scored on the power play 19:55 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Ottawa. Brockville had gained a power play chance when Daniel Sarracco was whistled for elbowing. Jack Billings provided the assist. Brockville additionally got points from Eric Israel, who also registered one goal and two assists.

Alexandre Savard-Belanger rejected 17 shots on goal for Ottawa. The Braves incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
