Kemptville outlasts Kanata, 3-2

The Kemptville 73s gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Kanata Stallions.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Matt Tugnutt at 18:31 of the second period.

Kemptville was led by Tugnutt, who finished with one goal.

The 73s forced Kanata goalie Brian Wilson to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Others who scored for Kemptville included Olivier Chabot and Rob Grant, who each put in one. More assists for Kemptville came via Quinn Wichers, who had two and Cody Hendsbee, Aaron Hickie, Jake Gaudet, and Alex Row, who contributed one each.

The Stallions' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Kemptville power plays. Kanata kept Kemptville's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jacob Tugnutt made 29 saves on 31 shots.

The Stallions were helped by Connor Cobbold, who racked up one goal. Cobbold scored on the power play 17:36 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Kanata earned a power play opportunity when Tyler Young was put in the box for slashing. Jean-Philippe Langlois assisted on the tally. Kanata additionally got points from Ian Johnston, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Kanata were Mike Tropea, who had one.

The 73s incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Wilson rejected 34 shots on goal for the Stallions. Kanata incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
