Cumberland vanquishes Brockville in shootout, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Bell Sensplex-Canadian Tire    Sun, Aug 31, 2014

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Cumberland Grads defeated the Brockville Braves in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams.

Cumberland saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The Grads made the score 2-0 on a goal by Cody Kyle at 8:24 in the second period. Brockville evened things up at 2-2 on a goal by Brett Van Stralen at 13:43 in the third period.

Cumberland stifled the Braves' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Grads' offense rang up 35 shots on Brockville's net.

Cumberland also got a goal from Reid Murphy as well. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Travis Douglas, Thomas Mansbridge, Maxime St.Pierre, and Martin Frechette, who contributed one each.

The Braves kept Cumberland's goalie busy throughout the game, and Paul Leger made 30 saves on 32 shots.

The Grads incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Brockville's Bo Taylor stopped 32 shots out of the 34 that he faced. The Braves incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
