Carleton Place wins tough contest against Ottawa, 3-2Bell Sensplex-Canadian Tire Sat, Aug 30, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Carleton Place Canadians gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Ottawa Senators. Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Tyson Stewart's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Carleton Place's penalty kill excelled, as the Canadians gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays. Carleton Place was led by Stewart, who tallied one goal. Stewart scored 17:36 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Carleton Place. Colin Kruse picked up the assist. The Canadians were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 16 penalty minutes. Carleton Place also got points from Craig Pefley, who also registered one goal and one assist and Stephen Baylis, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Carleton Place came via Owen Grant and Andy Sturtz, who contributed one each. Ottawa could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 14 minutes in penalties during the game. The Senators were helped by Zacharie Car, who had one goal. Car scored 14:16 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Shawn Lynch assisted on the tally. Ottawa also got a goal from Joey Champigny as well. In addition, Ottawa received assists from Robert Michel, Carl Faucher, and Cody Bean, who each chipped in one. Guillaume Therien recorded 19 saves for Carleton Place. The Canadians registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Alexandre Savard-Belanger rejected 20 shots on goal for Ottawa.
