Cornwall outlasts Pembroke, 5-4

The Cornwall Colts and the Pembroke Lumber Kings were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Cornwall made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-4.

The Colts gained the winning advantage on a goal by Jay DAmour 3:12 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

DAmour was all over the ice for Cornwall, as he tallied two goals in the win.

Pembroke was unable to stop the Colts from sending pucks towards the net, and Cornwall eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

Cornwall also had goals scored by Dean Derouchie, Keegan Mulhearn, and Kevin Hope, who scored one goal each. More assists for Cornwall came via Marly Quince, who had two and Cal Hofford, Ross Craig, Zac Tierney, Grant Cooper, Nick Lalonde, Lawson MacDougall, Ryan Patulli, and Thomas Hargrave, who contributed one each.

The Lumber Kings forced the Colts goalie Denny Dubblestyne to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Pembroke was led by Brett Horn, who racked up one goal and one assist. Horn scored 5:06 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Cornwall. Chris Minns assisted on the tally. Pembroke additionally got points from Minns, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Pembroke included Adam Dauda and Stephan Beauvais, who each put in one. In addition, Pembroke received assists from Colton Keuhl, Jason Tackett, Felix Chamberland, Troy Taylor, Jordan Larson, and Jack Patterson, who each chipped in one.

Denny Dubblestyne made 29 saves for Cornwall on 33 shots. The Colts incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Lumber Kings' Joel Horodziejczyk stopped 31 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Pembroke incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Lumber Kings ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Anthony Nellis was ejected from the game.
