Carleton Place uses shootout to best Gloucester, 5-4 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Carleton Place Canadians defeated the Gloucester Rangers in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for five attempts between the teams. Gloucester's shootout goal was scored by Ryan Kuffner. Carleton Place also got a shootout goal from Wesley Baker.

The Canadians came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Carleton Place was down 4-2 after a goal by the Rangers' Kuffner at 14:00 in the second period. The Canadians knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Brett Garvey at 19:09 in the third period.

Carleton Place got the win behind a great game by Andy Sturtz, who had one goal and two assists. Sturtz scored on the power play 9:41 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Gloucester. The Canadians had gotten the advantage when Gloucester's Lucas Zwaagstra was sent off for high sticking. Garvey picked up the assist.

Carleton Place kept the Rangers' goalie busy throughout the game, and David Richer made 32 saves on 37 shots.

Carleton Place also got points from Garvey, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Carleton Place also had goals scored by Tyson Stewart and Baker, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Carleton Place were Willy Brooks, who had two and Colin Kruse, Adam Lloyd, and Andrew Dodson, who each chipped in one.

Gloucester additionally got points from Matt Foget, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Branden Makara also scored for Gloucester. In addition, Gloucester received assists from Zackhary Salloum, who had one and Joey Fallon, who had two.

The Canadians' Guillaume Therien stopped 25 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Carleton Place incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Gloucester incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
