Lakefield outlasts Georgina, 4-2Georgina Ice Palace Fri, Feb 06, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Lakefield Chiefs gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Georgina Ice. Lakefield gained the winning advantage on a goal by William Sullivan 19:37 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. Aaron Vatcher had two goals to lead the Chiefs to victory. Vatcher scored at 16:30 into the second period to make the score 1-1 and again while 17:34 into the third to make the score 3-3. Lakefield's offense rang up 59 shots on Georgina's net. The Chiefs' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in two goals to the Ice's power play unit. Lakefield also got a goal from Travis Brault as well. More assists for Lakefield came via Riley Campbell, Jesse Gregory, Ethan Schott, Connor Blair, and Nick Julian, who each chipped in one. Georgina racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Ice had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game. Georgina was led by Brandon Basler, who registered one goal. Basler scored on the power play 1:55 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Georgina. The Ice had gained a power play chance when Josh Duggan was whistled for roughing. Ryan Kernohan assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Georgina included Matt McIntyre APM and Mark Gavrilov, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Georgina were McKenzie Gray and Nathan Sinclair, who contributed one each. Zach Wainman made 22 saves for Lakefield on 24 shots. The Chiefs incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Georgina's Brandon Klerer stopped 55 shots out of the 58 that he faced. The Ice ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Matthew Colley was ejected from the game.
