Howorko leads Clarington over Port Perry, 8-1

Behind a great game by Dylan Howorko, who had one goal and two assists, the Clarington Eagles defeated the Port Perry Mojacks, 8-1.

Howorko beat Jeff Julien with a shot 12:03 into the second period on the power play to make the score 2-1 Clarington. Clarington had gotten the advantage when Port Perry's Ryan Bernardes was sent off for holding. Jarod Hollister assisted on the tally. Howorko dished an assist on Chris Ludwinski's goal that made the score 1-1 at 10:29 into the second period. He added another helper on Cody Kean's goal that made the score 4-1 Clarington at 17:51 into the second period.

The Mojacks were stymied by the Eagles' netminder Connor Visca, who stopped 25 shots during the victory. Visca certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.29 entering the contest.

Port Perry's power play was ineffective against Clarington's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Eagles forced Mojacks' netminders to work without much rest, firing 46 shots and forcing 38 saves. Julien made 28 stops and Cody Northover made 10. Clarington put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Mojacks to score on any of their six power plays. The Eagles' goal total was higher than their season average. Clarington averages 4.4 goals per game. The Eagles' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Clarington's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Eagles finished with 30 penalty minutes.

Clarington additionally got points from Ludwinski, who also registered one goal and two assists, Jake Carter, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Brent Hambly, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Brodie Myers also scored for Clarington. Other players who recorded assists for Clarington were Mackenzie Morissette, who had one and Mitchell Marchbank, Brad Down, and Collin Weston, who each chipped in two.

Port Perry did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Mojacks put an average of 4.2 pucks into the net per game. Port Perry found itself short handed often, totaling 34 penalty minutes and allowing 12 power plays.
