Clarington blows out Georgina, 10-0

Georgina Ice Palace    Sun, Jan 25, 2015

The Georgina Ice had trouble finding ways to stop the Clarington Eagles, which beat Ice, 10-0.

Clarington was sparked by Brodie Myers, who had one goal and one assist. Myers scored on the power play 4:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Clarington. The Eagles earned a power play opportunity when Jake Martin was put in the box for hooking. Jake Carter picked up the assist.

Clarington put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Georgina to score on any of its five power plays. The Eagles' defensive play was more effective than usual against the Ice. Clarington allows 3.0 goals per game. Georgina was unable to stop the Eagles from sending pucks towards the net, and Clarington eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. The Eagles surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Clarington averages 4.3 goals per contest.

Clarington also got points from Carter, who also grabbed one goal and four assists to lead the team in points, Brad Down, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Jarod Hollister, who also registered two goals and one assist. In addition, Clarington received assists from Chris Ludwinski, who had five and Cody Kean and Braden Gray, who each chipped in one.

The Ice were held below their usual level of production. Georgina averages 2.7 goals per game. The Ice struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 30 penalty minutes for nine opposing power plays.

Tyler Caruana made 15 saves for the Eagles on 15 shots. Clarington ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. The Eagles ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Grieve was ejected from the game. Georgina's Vincenzo DElia stopped 25 shots out of the 35 that he faced.
