Huge game by Theissen boosts Port Perry over Georgina, 9-5

Brett Theissen had two goals and two assists to lead the Port Perry Mojacks to a 9-5 victory over the Georgina Ice.

Theissen scored at 14:57 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Georgina and again while on the power play 17:33 into the second to make the score 6-5 Port Perry.

Port Perry forced Georgina goalie Brandon Klerer to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots. The Mojacks outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Port Perry averages 4.2 goals per contest.

Port Perry also got points from Kyle Powell, who also had one goal and one assist, Ryan Bernardes, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Graham Lamers, who also had two goals and one assist, and Jeff St. Pierre, who also registered one goal and two assists. Port Perry also had goals scored by Ryan Nichols and Lucas Clark, who each put in one. In addition, Port Perry received assists from Liam Schweda, who had two, Lucas Berkers, who had three, and Cole Murray, Andrew Crichton, and Owen Bateman, who each chipped in one.

The Ice found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Georgina averages 2.7 goals per game. The Ice's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Georgina could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Ice were helped by JP Contento, who grabbed one goal and two assists. Contento scored on the power play 14:42 into the second period to make the score 5-5. Georgina had gotten the advantage when the Mojacks' Kyle Schweda was sent off for goalie interference. Justin Wain provided the assist. Others who scored for Georgina included Ryan Kernohan, Brendan Mckenzie APM, Dan Foster, and Brandon Basler, who scored one goal each. More assists for Georgina came via Mark Gavrilov, who had two and McKenzie Gray and Erik Tammisto APM, who contributed one each.

Blake Shaw made six saves before being replaced by Jeff Julien, who took the win and made 12 saves. Port Perry incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Ice's Klerer stopped 36 shots out of the 45 that he faced. Georgina registered two goals on five power play opportunities. The Ice ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bradley Evans was ejected from the game.
