Little Britain wins tough contest against North Kawartha, 5-4

The Little Britain Merchants and the North Kawartha Knights were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Little Britain made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-4.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Mitchell Brown secured the win for the Merchants with a goal in the third period.

Little Britain got the win with help from a great game by Brett Doble, who had one goal and two assists. Doble scored on the power play 19:05 into the third period to make the score 4-4. The Merchants had gotten the advantage when North Kawartha's Daniel Bennett was sent off for high sticking. Kurtis Moore provided the assist.

Little Britain's penalty kill excelled, as the Merchants gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

The Knights were unable to stop Little Britain from sending pucks towards the net, and the Merchants eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. Little Britain was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 24 penalty minutes.

Little Britain also got points from Moore, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Little Britain included Aidan Renouf and Matt VanKessel, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Little Britain were Terry Snoddon, who had two and Curtis Lee and Brad Ward, who contributed one each.

North Kawartha forced the Merchants goalie Adam Harris to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots.

The Knights were helped by Christian Lachapelle, who grabbed one goal. Lachapelle scored 9:21 into the third period to make the score 4-3 North Kawartha. Bennett assisted on the tally. North Kawartha also had goals scored by Russell Fontyn, Kaleb Marshman, and Cameron Medland, who each put in one. In addition, North Kawartha received assists from Cole Robbins, Braden Frise, Jacob Tracey, Mitch Stewart, and Regan Kennedy, who each chipped in one.

Harris rejected 35 shots on goal for Little Britain. The Merchants registered one goal on three power play opportunities. North Kawartha's James Hack stopped 30 shots out of the 35 that he faced. The Knights incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
