Clarington blows out Georgina, 5-2

The Clarington Eagles had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-2 win over the Georgina Ice.

Brodie Myers had two goals and one assist to lead Clarington. Myers scored the first of his two goals at 14:37 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Clarington. Brent Hambly assisted on the tally. Myers' next tally made the score 4-2 Clarington with 1:47 left in the second period. Colin Weston picked up the assist.

The Eagles' penalty kill excelled, as Clarington gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

The Eagles kept Georgina's goalie busy throughout the game, and Brandon Klerer made 31 saves on 36 shots. Clarington's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Eagles finished with 38 penalty minutes.

Clarington also got points from Weston, who also registered one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Clarington included Brad Down and Justin Holiad, who scored one goal each. More assists for Clarington came via Blane Gaudon, who had one and Dylan Howorko and Cody Kean, who contributed two each.

The Ice were led by Brett Theissen, who had one goal and one assist. Theissen scored on the power play 6:35 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Clarington. Georgina had taken the advantage when Clarington's Mackenzie Morissette got sent off for hooking. Klerer provided the assist. Georgina also got a goal from Bradley Evans as well.

The Eagles' Connor Visca stopped 19 shots out of the 21 that he faced. Clarington registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. The Eagles ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Darby Medd was ejected from the game. The Ice incurred 52 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For Georgina, Jake Martin was ejected from the game.
