Lakefield squeaks by Port Perry, 3-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Lakefield Chiefs escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Port Perry Mojacks.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Patrick Young at 3:38 of the third period.

Lakefield was paced by Young, who grabbed one goal.

Lakefield additionally got points from Ryan Anderson, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Lakefield also got a goal from Jayd Killingbeck as well. More assists for Lakefield came via Keenan Runnalls, who had two and Hunter Hotrum, Connor Blair, and Travis Brault, who each chipped in one.

Port Perry could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Mojacks average 4.2 goals per game.

Port Perry was helped by Jeff St. Pierre, who racked up one goal. St. Pierre scored on the power play 2:49 into the second period to make the score 1-1. A cross checking penalty on Brault had put the Mojacks on the power play. Kyle Powell picked up the assist. Graham Lamers also scored for Port Perry. Other players who recorded assists for Port Perry were Lucas Clark, who had one and Cole Murray, who had two.

The Chiefs' Zach Wainman stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Lakefield totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play. The Chiefs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Nick Hildebrand was ejected from the game. Blake Shaw made 17 saves for Port Perry on 20 shots. The Mojacks incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. For Port Perry, Owen Bateman was ejected from the game.
