Uxbridge hangs on, beats North Kawartha 3-1

Robert Freckleton scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Uxbridge Bruins held off the challenges of the North Kawartha Knights in a tough 3-1 win.

A goal 6:23 into the first period by Freckleton proved to be the game winner, and powered Uxbridge to the victory. Todd Winder picked up the assist.

The Bruins were sparked by Shane Smith, who had one goal. Smith scored 6:06 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Uxbridge. Marco Mastrangelo provided the assist.

Uxbridge put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow North Kawartha to score on any of its five power plays.

Uxbridge also got points from Freckleton, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Uxbridge also got a goal from Korey Brand as well. More assists for Uxbridge came via Aiden Reilly, who had one.

The Knights' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Uxbridge power plays.

North Kawartha was led by Russell Fontyn, who scored the team's only goal. Fontyn scored short handed 11:28 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Uxbridge. The Knights were on a disadvantage when Jacob Phillips went off the ice for high sticking.

Jake Joosten made 21 saves for the Bruins on 22 shots. Uxbridge ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. For the Bruins, Alex Siblock was ejected from the game. James Hack rejected 20 shots on goal for North Kawartha. The Knights ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. North Kawartha ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brett Marshman was ejected from the game.
