Lakefield survives Clarington comeback, wins 5-4Lakefield-Smith CC Tue, Dec 30, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Clarington Eagles tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Lakefield Chiefs held on for a 5-4 victory. A goal by Riley Campbell put Lakefield up 5-3 in the third period, but Clarington pulled to within one on Brad Down's tally 16:00 into the third period. Campbell had a great game for the Chiefs, netting two goals. Lakefield excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. The Chiefs could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game. Lakefield additionally got points from Travis Brault, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Lakefield also had goals scored by Jordan MacLean and William Sullivan, who each put in one. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Patrick Young, Eric Oosting, and Connor Blair, who each chipped in one. The Eagles were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 26 penalty minutes. Clarington was led by Cody Kean, who racked up two goals and one assist. Kean scored the first of his two goals at 13:10 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Clarington. Jarod Hollister picked up the assist. Kean's next tally made the score 3-3 with 8:07 left in the second period. Colin Weston assisted on the tally. Clarington also got a goal from Darby Medd as well. More assists for Clarington came via Brent Hambly, who had one. Zach Wainman recorded 22 saves for Lakefield. The Chiefs registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Connor Visca made 16 saves for the Eagles on 21 shots.
