Lakefield blows out North Kawartha, 6-1

The Lakefield Chiefs had a five-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-1 win over the North Kawartha Knights.

Travis Brault was all over the ice for Lakefield, as he finished with two goals in the win. Brault scored at 19:44 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Lakefield and again while on the power play 17:16 into the second to make the score 5-0 Lakefield.

North Kawartha's power play was ineffective against the Chiefs' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 16:26 into the second period. Eight fighting penalties were dished out along with six game misconducts.

Lakefield was often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and four majors for 60 minutes in penalty time. The Chiefs surpassed its season average of 25.0 penalty minutes per game. Lakefield's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six North Kawartha power plays. The Chiefs' offense rang up 33 shots on the Knights' net.

Lakefield additionally got points from William Sullivan, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Jesse Gregory, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Eric Oosting, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Skylor Andrus also scored for Lakefield. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Patrick Young, Hunter Hotrum, Jayd Killingbeck, Keenan Runnalls, Aaron Vatcher, and Connor Blair, who contributed one each.

North Kawartha's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and four majors for 48 minutes in penalty time. The Knights had been averaging 25.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Jonathan Thain recorded 24 saves for Lakefield. The Chiefs registered one goal on three power play opportunities. For Lakefield, Josh Duggan, Dalton Hill, Nick Hildebrand, and Frank Sullivan were ejected from the contest. North Kawartha's Brenton McKenzie Crowe stopped 27 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Team's Mitch Stewart, Kaleb Marshman, Braden McDonald, and Christian Lachapelle were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
