Clarington holds on for 4-3 win against Little Britain

The Clarington Eagles survived a determined comeback attempt by the Little Britain Merchants on the way to a 4-3 win.

A goal by Jake Carter put Clarington up 4-2 in the second period, but Little Britain pulled to within one on Jesse Beers's tally 9:56 into the third period.

Carter had two goals and one assist to lead the Eagles. Carter scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 4:55 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Clarington had gained a power play chance when Mackenzie Smith was whistled for roughing. Brad Down provided the assist. Carter's next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Clarington with 8:05 left in the second period. Down picked up the assist.

The Merchants were unable to stop the Eagles from sending pucks towards the net, and Clarington eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. The Eagles was effective with a man advantage, and put in three goals while on the power play.

Clarington also had goals scored by Brent Hambly and Blane Gaudon, who each put in one. In addition, Clarington received assists from Ben Pitchforth and Jarod Hollister, who contributed one each.

Little Britain forced Clarington goalie Tyler Caruana to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Little Britain also got points from Kurtis Moore, who also had one goal and one assist. Little Britain also got a goal from Terry Snoddon as well. Other players who recorded assists for Little Britain were Mitchell Brown, who had one and Brady Martin, who had two.

Caruana recorded 34 saves for the Eagles. Clarington incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Eagles ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Dylan Howorko was ejected from the game. Garrett Haden made 30 saves for the Merchants on 34 shots. Little Britain totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. For the Merchants, Jesse Craig was ejected from the game.
