North Kawartha uses shootout to best Little Britain, 5-4 (3-2 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the North Kawartha Knights defeated the Little Britain Merchants in a shootout 5-4 (3-2 SO).

The two teams needed 10 turns to complete the shootout. Little Britain's shootout goals were scored by Kurtis Moore and Aidan Renouf. North Kawartha also got shootout goals from Cameron Medland and Christian Lachapelle.

The Knights came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. North Kawartha fell behind 3-0 after a goal by the Merchants' Brady Martin at 11:54 in the first period. The Knights knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Matt Douglas at 9:41 in the third period.

North Kawartha found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Knights average 2.3 goals per game.

North Kawartha was helped by Lachapelle, who tallied one goal and one assist. Lachapelle scored 2:17 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Little Britain. Alex Gonyou provided the assist. North Kawartha additionally got points from Zack Pearson, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Jesse Douglas, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for North Kawartha came via Russell Fontyn, who had one.

Little Britain excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Merchants forced the Knights goalie James Hack to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots.

Little Britain also had goals scored by Moore and Riley Jenkins, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Little Britain were Brett Doble, who had two and Jordan Sharpe, Kyle ODonnell, Brad Ward, and Greg McLean, who contributed one each.

North Kawartha's Hack stopped 39 shots out of the 43 that he faced. The Knights incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with two minors. Adam Harris made 25 saves for Little Britain on 29 shots. The Merchants incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with two minors.
