Long nets hat trick, leads Little Britain to 8-4 win over Georgina

Hayden Long netted a hat trick to lead the Little Britain Merchants over the Georgina Ice, 8-4.

Long notched his first tally 19:01 into the second period. He then added goals at 1:50 into the third and at 10:23 into the third.

Little Britain kept Georgina's goalie busy throughout the game, and Brandon Klerer made 40 saves on 48 shots. The Merchants outdid their season average for goals scored. Little Britain averages 4.4 goals per game. The Merchants' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Little Britain finished with 34 penalty minutes.

Little Britain additionally got points from Terry Snoddon, who also had two goals and one assist and Aidan Renouf, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Little Britain included Brady Martin and Michael Cox, who each put in one. More assists for Little Britain came via Jesse Craig, who had four, Brant Foster and Matt VanKessel, who each chipped in one, and Mitchell Brown and Mark Harris, who contributed two each.

The Merchants were unable to stop the Ice from sending pucks towards the net, and Georgina eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. The Ice's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Georgina was led by Cameron McSween, who grabbed two goals and one assist. McSween scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 5:36 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Georgina. The Ice earned a power play opportunity when Snoddon was put in the box for high sticking. Mark Gavrilov picked up the assist. McSween's next tally on the power play made the score 5-5 with 10:44 left in the third period. Georgina also got points from Brandon Hughes, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Brandon Basler, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Brett Theissen also scored for Georgina. In addition, Georgina received assists from Andrew Rankeesoon, who had two.

Adam Harris recorded 30 saves for Little Britain. The Merchants registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Georgina incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
