Lakefield earns hard-fought 1-0 win over Port Perry

The Lakefield Chiefs beat the Port Perry Mojacks 1-0 in a game that featured tenacious defense, solid goalkeeping and a winning score from Patrick Young.

The assists on the winning goal came courtesy of Eric Oosting and Travis Brault.

Lakefield's penalty kill excelled, as the Chiefs gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays.

Lakefield was led by Young, who finished with one goal. Young scored 10:08 into the third period to make the score 1-0 Lakefield. Oosting picked up the assist.

The Chiefs stifled Port Perry's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Lakefield did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Chiefs put an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game.

The Mojacks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Port Perry was held below its usual level of production. The Mojacks average 4.2 goals per game.

Zach Wainman made 19 saves for Lakefield on 19 shots. The Chiefs incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Port Perry's Blake Shaw stopped 16 shots out of the 17 that he faced. The Mojacks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
