Georgina stifles Little Britain's comeback, gains 5-4 victory

The Georgina Ice, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the Little Britain Merchants and clinched a 5-4 victory.

Georgina led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Ice's Brandon Basler scored on the power play at 13:46 in the second period to put Georgina up 5-2.

Mark Gavrilov had two goals to lead the Ice to victory. Gavrilov scored short handed at 3:45 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Georgina and again while short handed 6:43 into the second to make the score 4-2 Georgina.

Georgina forced Merchants' netminders to work in net, finishing with 33 shots and forcing 28 saves. Adam Harris made zero stops and Garrett Haden made 28. The Ice's goal total was higher than their season average. Georgina has scored at the pace of 2.9 goals per game during the current campaign. The Ice could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game. The defensemen of Georgina were also effective in Little Britain's zone, and came away with two goals.

Georgina also got points from Brandon Hughes, who also registered one goal and one assist. Georgina also got a goal from Bradley Evans as well. In addition, Georgina received assists from Brendan Mckenzie APM and Derek Risebrough, who contributed one each and Brett Theissen, Justin Wain, and JP Contento, who each chipped in two.

The Merchants' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Little Britain finished with 32 penalty minutes.

The Merchants were led by Terry Snoddon, who racked up three goals and one assist. Aidan Renouf also scored for Little Britain. Other players who recorded assists for Little Britain were Jordan Sharpe, Kurtis Moore, Jesse Beers, and Brett Doble, who contributed one each.

The Ice's Vincenzo DElia stopped 22 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Georgina registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. Little Britain registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For the Merchants, Beers was ejected from the game.
