Uxbridge wins tough contest against Lakefield, 5-4

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Uxbridge Bruins escaped with a 5-4 victory over the Lakefield Chiefs.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Marco Mastrangelo's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Mastrangelo was all over the ice for Uxbridge, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Mastrangelo scored the first of his two goals at 10:12 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Uxbridge. Liam Knoll picked up the assist. Mastrangelo's next tally made the score 5-4 Uxbridge with 7:03 left in the third period. Jarett Smith provided the assist.

The Bruins struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 38 penalty minutes for 10 opposing power plays.

Uxbridge additionally got points from Smith, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Connor Evans, who also had one goal and one assist. Jordan Nesbitt also scored for Uxbridge. More assists for Uxbridge came via Tyson Eastgate, who had two.

Lakefield was helped by Nick Julian, who finished with one goal. Julian scored 2:01 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Joe Sargeant picked up the assist. Lakefield also got points from Riley Campbell, who also registered one goal and one assist, Jesse Gregory, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Sargeant, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Patrick Young, Ian Cummings, Keenan Runnalls, Dayton Kent, and Connor Blair, who contributed one each.

Brandon Francey rejected 18 shots on goal for Uxbridge. The Bruins registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Jonathan Thain recorded 21 saves for the Chiefs. Lakefield incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Chiefs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jordan MacLean was ejected from the game.
