Lakefield blows out Clarington, 6-1

The Clarington Eagles had trouble finding ways to stop the Lakefield Chiefs, which beat Eagles, 6-1.

Lakefield's Zach Wainman was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 29 saves and let only one puck past him. Wainman managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.74 prior to the game.

The Chiefs' penalty kill excelled, as Lakefield gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

The Chiefs forced Clarington's goalies to work in net, ripping 40 shots and forcing 34 saves. Tyler Caruana made 33 stops and Max Tjin made one. Lakefield's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Chiefs finished with 48 penalty minutes.

Lakefield was helped by Jayd Killingbeck, who registered one goal. Killingbeck scored 11:35 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Lakefield. Joe Sargeant picked up the assist. Lakefield also got points from Eric Oosting, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Aaron Vatcher, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Lakefield included Patrick Young, Dalton Hill, and Nick Hildebrand, who scored one goal each. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Josh Duggan, Hunter Hotrum, Travis Brault, and Frank Sullivan, who each chipped in one.

The Eagles could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Clarington averages 3.6 goals per game. The Eagles struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 54 penalty minutes for seven opposing power plays.

Clarington also got a goal from Brad Down as well. Other players who recorded assists for Clarington were Jake Carter and Brodie Myers, who contributed one each.

The Chiefs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Hill was ejected from the game. For Clarington, Mitchell Marchbank was ejected from the game.
