Port Perry uses big second period to beat North Kawartha, 6-0

The Port Perry Mojacks scored three goals in the second period to pull away from the North Kawartha Knights and clinch a 6-0 win.

Jeff Julien spearheaded the defensive effort for Port Perry, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 25 saves for the shutout. Julien managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.98 prior to the game.

Ryan Bernardes had two goals to lead the Mojacks to victory. Bernardes found the back of the net 6:06 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Perry and again while 9:52 into the second to make the score 3-0 Port Perry.

Port Perry's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game the Mojacks had been spending in the box. Port Perry was steadier on the defensive front than it has been for much of this season. The Mojacks average 2.5 goals allowed per game. Port Perry kept North Kawartha's goalie busy throughout the game, and James Hack made 29 saves on 35 shots.

Port Perry also got points from Cole Murray, who also tallied one goal and three assists to lead the team in points and Kyle Powell, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Port Perry included Graham Lamers and Evan Wasylyk, who each put in one. In addition, Port Perry received assists from Ryan Nichols, Lucas Berkers, Matthew Doucette, Andrew Crichton, and Konrad Piorkowski, who contributed one each.

The Knights were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 51 minutes in penalty time. North Kawartha surpassed its season average of 26.0 penalty minutes per game. The Knights could not produce up to their normal offensive output. North Kawartha averages 2.3 goals per game.

The Mojacks registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Port Perry ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jeff St. Pierre was ejected from the game. The Knights registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. For North Kawartha, Daniel Bennett was ejected from the game.
