Lakefield falls to Clarington in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

Brad Down gave the Clarington Eagles a 5-4 (OT) victory over the Lakefield Chiefs when he scored 43 seconds into the extra period.

Clarington overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Eagles trailed 3-1 after a power play goal by Lakefield's Eric Oosting at 11:31 in the second period. Clarington tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Brodie Myers at 12:28 in the third period.

With three goals and two assists between them, Myers and Down teamed up to power the Eagles' offense. Myers had two goals and one assist and Down also notched one goal and one assist.

Clarington's penalty kill unit could not stop the Chiefs' power play, which converted on two of three opportunities.

Clarington additionally got points from Down, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Jarod Hollister, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Brent Hambly also scored for Clarington. More assists for Clarington came via Austin Collins, Braden Gray, Ryan Smith, and Jim Allen, who each chipped in one.

Lakefield forced the Eagles goalie Max Tjin to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

The Chiefs were helped by Patrick Young, who registered two goals. Young scored the first of his two goals at 6:28 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Lakefield. Oosting assisted on the tally. Young's next tally made the score 2-1 Lakefield with 14:29 left in the second period. A cross checking penalty on Smith had put Lakefield on the power play. Riley Campbell picked up the assist. Lakefield also got points from Oosting, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Travis Brault, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Josh Duggan, Jesse Gregory, Aaron Vatcher, and Connor Blair, who contributed one each.

Clarington's Tjin stopped 27 shots out of the 31 that he faced. The Eagles incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Zach Wainman rejected 24 shots on goal for the Chiefs. Lakefield incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
