Clarington holds on for 5-4 win against Little Britain

The Little Britain Merchants tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Clarington Eagles would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-4.

A goal by Brent Hambly put Clarington up 5-2 in the second period, but Little Britain pulled to within one on Kurtis Moore's tally 8:19 into the third period.

The Eagles pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 12 penalty minutes.

Clarington's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Little Britain power plays. The Merchants were unable to stop the Eagles from sending pucks towards the net, and Clarington eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

The Eagles were helped by Braden Gray, who grabbed one goal. Gray scored on the power play 9:34 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Clarington. Clarington earned a power play opportunity when Mackenzie Smith was put in the box for goalie interference. Jake Carter picked up the assist. Clarington also got points from Jarod Hollister, who also had one goal and one assist, Jim Allen, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Brodie Myers, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Clarington received assists from Brad Down, who had two and Dylan Howorko and Joe Lamanna, who each chipped in one.

Little Britain was led by Brady Martin, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Martin scored 8:43 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Clarington. Brett Doble assisted on the tally. Little Britain also had goals scored by Jordan Sharpe and Terry Snoddon, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Little Britain were Nathan Hughes and Matt VanKessel, who contributed one each.

Tyler Caruana made 24 saves for the Eagles on 28 shots. Clarington registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Garrett Haden rejected 31 shots on goal for the Merchants. Little Britain incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
