Lakefield downs North Kawartha, 9-6

The Lakefield Chiefs beat the North Kawartha Knights, 9-6.

Lakefield forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. The Chiefs had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game. Lakefield forced Knights' goalies to work all game long, launching 43 shots and forcing 34 saves. James Hack made 21 stops and Brenton McKenzie Crowe made 13. The Chiefs outdid their season average for goals scored. Lakefield has scored at the pace of 4.3 goals per game during the current campaign.

The Chiefs were led by Frank Sullivan, who finished with one goal and two assists. Sullivan scored 6:42 into the second period to make the score 5-1 Lakefield. Ian Cummings picked up the assist. Lakefield additionally got points from Patrick Young, who also racked up one goal and two assists, William Sullivan, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Cummings, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Connor Blair, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Lakefield included Jesse Gregory, who had two and Keenan Runnalls and Dayton Kent, who each put in one. More assists for Lakefield came via Nick Julian, who had two and Josh Duggan, Hunter Hotrum, Riley Campbell, and Aaron Vatcher, who contributed one each.

North Kawartha was often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 25.0 minutes per game the Knights had been spending in the box. North Kawartha's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Knights average 2.8 goals per contest. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with four goals.

North Kawartha was led by Braden McDonald, who tallied two goals and one assist. McDonald scored the first of his two goals at 6:01 into the third period to make the score 7-4 Lakefield. Matt Douglas provided the assist. McDonald's next tally made the score 9-6 Lakefield with 1:27 left in the third period. Ryan Miehm assisted on the tally. North Kawartha also got points from Jesse Douglas, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. North Kawartha also had goals scored by Cole Robbins, Braden Frise, and Eddy Whitmore, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for North Kawartha were Regan Kennedy, who had one and Cameron Medland, who had two.

Jonathan Thain recorded 24 saves for Lakefield. The Chiefs registered two goals on five power play opportunities. For Lakefield, Vatcher was ejected from the game. The Knights registered two goals on six power play opportunities. North Kawartha ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Daniel Bennett was ejected from the game.
