GAME RECAP

Campbell lifts Lakefield over Georgina, 3-0

Lakefield-Smith CC    Tue, Oct 28, 2014

Riley Campbell had two goals to lead the Lakefield Chiefs to a 3-0 victory over the Georgina Ice.

Campbell's tallies came at 11:40 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Lakefield and on the power play 3:45 into the third to make the score 2-0 Lakefield.

Georgina's power play was ineffective against Lakefield's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Chiefs put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Ice to score on any of their eight power plays. Lakefield forced Georgina goalie Lennon Gowan to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. The Chiefs could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game.

Lakefield also got a goal from Eric Oosting as well. Other players who recorded assists for Lakefield were Jordan MacLean, Jayd Killingbeck, Nick Hildebrand, and Connor Blair, who each chipped in one.

The Ice did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Georgina averages 2.6 goals per game. The Ice were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 24 penalty minutes.

Kevin Collins recorded 24 saves for Lakefield. The Chiefs registered one goal on nine power play opportunities. Georgina's Gowan stopped 29 shots out of the 32 that he faced.
