GAME RECAP

Port Perry rolls over Clarington, 4-1

Scugog Memorial Arena    Sun, Oct 26, 2014

The Port Perry Mojacks had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 4-1 win over the Clarington Eagles.

Port Perry's Blake Shaw was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 25 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Shaw will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.39.

Clarington's power play was ineffective against the Mojacks' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Port Perry stifled the Eagles' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Mojacks forced Clarington goalie Max Tjin to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Port Perry was helped by Ryan Nichols, who registered one goal. Nichols scored 7:23 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Port Perry. Stevie Sampson picked up the assist. Graham Lamers also scored for Port Perry. In addition, Port Perry received assists from Kyle Schweda, Eric MacDonald, Liam Schweda, Jeff St. Pierre, and Lucas Clark, who contributed one each.

The Eagles put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Mojacks to score on any of their eight power plays. Clarington's offense operated below its season average. The Eagles average 3.5 goals per game.

Clarington was led by Braden Gray, who scored the team's only goal. Gray scored 3:46 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Brodie Myers provided the assist.

Port Perry incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. The Eagles' Tjin stopped 27 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Clarington incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
