Lachapelle leads North Kawartha over Georgina, 7-2

Christian Lachapelle had one goal and three assists to lead the North Kawartha Knights to a 7-2 victory over the Georgina Ice.

Lachapelle got on the board by slotting home a goal 16:17 into the second period to make the score 3-2 North Kawartha. Russell Fontyn picked up the assist. Lachapelle dished an assist on Fontyn's goal that made the score 2-0 North Kawartha at 19:36 into the first period. He then added assists on Eddy Whitmore's goal at 5:16 into the third and on Cole Robbins's goal at 6:36 into the third.

Georgina's power play was ineffective against North Kawartha's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 15:46 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Knights racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and two majors for 38 minutes in penalty time. North Kawartha surpassed its season average of 28.0 penalty minutes per game. The Knights bested their season scoring average. This season, North Kawartha averages 2.8 goals per contest. The Knights had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on nine chances.

North Kawartha also got points from Fontyn, who also racked up two goals and one assist. North Kawartha also had goals scored by Ryan Miehm and Cameron Medland, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for North Kawartha were Jacob Phillips, Zack Pearson, Tanner Hamilton, Braden Frise, Matt Douglas, Jesse Douglas, and Braden McDonald, who contributed one each.

The Ice forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 11 minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. Georgina had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Ice forced North Kawartha's goalies to work all game long, totaling 35 shots and forcing 33 saves. Brenton McKenzie Crowe made 24 stops and James Hack made nine.

Georgina was helped by Brandon Brown, who grabbed one goal. Brown scored on the power play 6:03 into the second period to make the score 2-1 North Kawartha. A delay of game penalty on McKenzie Crowe had put the Ice on the power play. Derek Risebrough provided the assist. Bradley Evans also scored for Georgina. In addition, Georgina received assists from Brett Theissen, who had one.

For the Knights, Phillips and Daniel Bennett were ejected from the contest. Georgina's starting goalie, Lennon Gowan, made 18 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Ethan Slimkowich, who stopped one shot. The Ice ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bradley Boudreau was ejected from the game.
