Uxbridge vanquishes Port Perry in shootout, 4-3 (2-0 SO)Scugog Memorial Arena Sun, Oct 19, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Uxbridge Bruins defeated the Port Perry Mojacks in a shootout 4-3 (2-0 SO). The shootout lasted for five attempts between the teams. Uxbridge's other shootout goal was scored by Dylan Locke.The Bruins came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Uxbridge fell behind 3-2 after a goal by Port Perry's Stevie Sampson at 13:42 in the second period. The Bruins knotted things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Carter Vahey at 17:21 in the second period. Uxbridge pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 40 penalty minutes. The Bruins kept the Mojacks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Blake Shaw made 31 saves on 35 shots. Uxbridge managed to hold Port Perry's power play largely in check, allowing only one goal while on the disadvantage. The Bruins were led by Jarett Smith, who tallied one goal and one assist. Smith scored on the power play 5:13 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Uxbridge earned a power play opportunity when Kyle Powell was put in the box for spearing. Korey Brand picked up the assist. Locke also scored for Uxbridge. In addition, Uxbridge received assists from Daryl Thomson, Marco Mastrangelo, and Connor Evans, who contributed one each. The Mojacks forced the Bruins goalie Brandon Francey to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. Port Perry could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game. The Mojacks were helped by Konrad Piorkowski, who had one goal. Piorkowski scored on the power play 18:00 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Port Perry had gotten the advantage when Uxbridge's Jordan Nesbitt was sent off for head contact. Liam Schweda provided the assist. Port Perry also got a goal from Kyle Schweda as well. More assists for Port Perry came via Ryan Nichols, Matthew Doucette, Graham Lamers, and Lucas Clark, who each chipped in one. The Bruins' Francey stopped 29 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Uxbridge registered two goals on 14 power play opportunities.
