Georgina rides Slimkowich to victory over Port Perry, 3-1

The Georgina Ice relied on the sparkling performance of Ethan Slimkowich in net to grab a 3-1 win against the Port Perry Mojacks.

Port Perry's power play was ineffective against Georgina's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Ice were led by Brandon Brown, who registered one goal. Brown scored 19:50 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Georgina. Justin Wain picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 19:06 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Georgina's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 11 minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The Ice had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Georgina also got points from Wain, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Brett Thomson also scored for Georgina. In addition, Georgina received assists from Brandon Basler, who had two and Bradley Evans, McKenzie Gray, and Derek Risebrough, who each chipped in one.

The Mojacks did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Port Perry puts an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game.

The Mojacks were led by Todd McNair, who scored the team's only goal. McNair scored on the power play 11:14 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Port Perry had gotten the advantage when Georgina's Mark Gavrilov was sent off for leaving penalty bench. Cole Murray provided the assist.

Ethan Slimkowich made 29 saves for the Ice on 30 shots. Georgina registered two goals on six power play opportunities. The Ice ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brown was ejected from the game. The Mojacks' Jeff Julien stopped 26 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Port Perry ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. For the Mojacks, Ryan Nichols, Lucas Berkers, and Evan Wasylyk were ejected from the contest.
