Port Perry holds on for 6-5 win against Lakefield

The Port Perry Mojacks survived a determined comeback attempt by the Lakefield Chiefs on the way to a 6-5 win.

A goal by Lucas Clark put Port Perry up 6-4 in the third period, but Lakefield pulled to within one on Jordan MacLean's tally 15:52 into the third period.

The Mojacks got the win with help from a great game by Konrad Piorkowski, who had two goals and one assist. Piorkowski scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 16:09 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Port Perry. Port Perry had gained a power play chance when Keenan Runnalls was whistled for spearing. Kyle Powell assisted on the tally. Piorkowski's next tally on the power play made the score 5-3 Port Perry with 15:25 left in the third period.

The Mojacks' offense rang up 33 shots on the Chiefs' net. Port Perry surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Mojacks average 3.5 goals per game. Port Perry's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Mojacks give up 2.0 goals per game. Port Perry could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game.

Port Perry also got points from Powell, who also registered one goal and three assists to lead the team in points and Jeff St. Pierre, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Port Perry also got a goal from Kyle Schweda as well. Other players who recorded assists for Port Perry were Lucas Berkers, who had one.

Lakefield kept the Mojacks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Blake Shaw made 27 saves on 32 shots. Team could not crack Port Perry's penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having 10 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

The Chiefs were helped by Travis Brault, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Brault scored 1:05 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Runnalls picked up the assist. Lakefield additionally got points from Hunter Hotrum, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Dayton Kent, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Shawn Mackie also scored for Lakefield. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Riley Campbell, Dalton Hill, and Jesse Gregory, who each chipped in one.

The Mojacks registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Lakefield's Kevin Collins stopped 27 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Chiefs incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
