Gowan APM leads Georgina to shutout victory over ClaringtonGeorgina Ice Palace Fri, Oct 03, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Lennon Gowan APM recorded a shutout against the Clarington Eagles as the Georgina Ice picked up a 3-0 win. Clarington's power play was ineffective against Georgina's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. The Ice put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Eagles to score on any of their 13 power plays. Georgina's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Ice finished with 40 penalty minutes. Georgina was helped by Derek Risebrough, who registered one goal. Risebrough scored on the power play 10:52 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Georgina. The Ice had taken the advantage when Clarington's Cody Kean got sent off for interference. Justin Wain picked up the assist. Georgina additionally got points from Wain, who also racked up two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Georgina were Brett Theissen, who had two and Brett Thomson, Brandon Hughes, and Ryan Kernohan, who contributed one each. The Eagles' offense operated below their season average. Clarington averages 3.5 goals per game. The Eagles kept Georgina's goalie busy throughout the game, and Gowan APM made 37 saves on 37 shots. The Ice registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. Tyler Caruana rejected 23 shots on goal for Clarington. The Eagles incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
