Lakefield beats Uxbridge 6-5 after comeback scare

The Uxbridge Bruins tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Lakefield Chiefs would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 6-5.

A goal by Travis Brault put Lakefield up 6-4 in the third period, but Uxbridge pulled to within one on Korey Brand's tally 19:49 into the third period.

The Chiefs were sparked by Brault, who tallied one goal and one assist. Brault scored 11:14 into the third period to make the score 6-4 Lakefield. Patrick Young assisted on the tally.

Lakefield forced the Bruins goalie Brandon Francey to work between the pipes, taking 61 shots.

Lakefield also got points from Young, who also registered one goal and one assist, William Sullivan, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Eric Oosting, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Lakefield also had goals scored by Dalton Hill and Jesse Gregory, who scored one goal each. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Hunter Hotrum, Riley Campbell, Dayton Kent, and Connor Blair, who each chipped in one and Ian Cummings and Keenan Runnalls, who contributed two each.

The Chiefs were unable to stop Uxbridge from sending pucks towards the net, and the Bruins eventually piled up 57 shots on goal.

Uxbridge was helped by Jarett Smith, who had one goal. Smith scored on the power play 8:50 into the second period to make the score 4-4. The Bruins had gained a power play chance when Sullivan was whistled for cross checking. Marco Mastrangelo picked up the assist. Uxbridge additionally got points from Brand, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Uxbridge included Dylan Locke, Alex Siblock, and Tyson Eastgate, who each put in one. More assists for Uxbridge came via Robert Freckleton, Daryl Thomson, Shane Smith, Aiden Reilly, and Connor Evans, who each chipped in one.

Lakefield's Jonathan Thain stopped 52 shots out of the 57 that he faced. The Chiefs incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Lakefield ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Sullivan was ejected from the game. Francey rejected 55 shots on goal for Uxbridge. The Bruins incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
