Uxbridge rips Clarington, 5-1Garnet B. Rickard Rec Complex Sat, Sep 27, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Uxbridge Bruins were firing on all cylinders against the Clarington Eagles, and when the final buzzer sounded Bruins emerged with a 5-1 win. Uxbridge's Brandon Francey was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 32 saves and let only one puck past him. Francey certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.3 entering the contest. The Bruins pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 20 penalty minutes. Uxbridge forced Clarington goalie Max Tjin to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. The Bruins were helped by Shane Smith, who racked up one goal and one assist. Smith scored 12:06 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Uxbridge. Korey Brand assisted on the tally. Uxbridge additionally got points from Carter Vahey, who also registered one goal and one assist, Dylan Locke, who also grabbed two goals and one assist, and Brand, who also finished with one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Uxbridge were Jason Simmonds, Marco Mastrangelo, and Jordan Nesbitt, who contributed one each. The Eagles could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Clarington averages 3.5 goals per game. The Eagles' offense rang up 33 shots on Uxbridge's net. Team could not crack the Bruins' penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage. Clarington was led by Jim Allen, who scored the team's only goal. Allen scored on the power play 17:44 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Uxbridge. The Eagles earned a power play opportunity when Alex Williamson was put in the box for goalie interference. Brodie Myers provided the assist. Uxbridge registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. Tjin recorded 36 saves for Clarington. The Eagles incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
