Clarington blows out Little Britain, 5-1

The Clarington Eagles had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Little Britain Merchants.

Little Britain was stymied by Clarington's netminder Max Tjin, who stopped 27 shots during the victory. Tjin certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.5 entering the contest.

The Merchants' seven penalties came back to haunt them, as Little Britain let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

The Eagles' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Clarington finished with 18 penalty minutes. The defensemen of the Eagles were also effective in the Merchants' zone, and came away with two goals.

Clarington was helped by Mitchell Marchbank, who had one goal. Marchbank scored on the power play 13:14 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Clarington. The Eagles earned a power play opportunity when Joel Fedeski APM was put in the box for abuse of officials. Cody Kean provided the assist. Clarington additionally got points from Joe Lamanna, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Brad Down, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Clarington also got a goal from Jarod Hollister as well. In addition, Clarington received assists from Jake Carter, who had two and Brent Hambly and Jim Allen, who contributed one each.

Little Britain was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 34 penalty minutes.

The Merchants were led by Brett Doble, who scored the team's only goal. Doble scored on the power play 7:05 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Clarington. Little Britain had gotten the advantage when Clarington's Lamanna was sent off for hooking. Brant Foster picked up the assist.

The Eagles ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Down was ejected from the game. Garrett Haden rejected 21 shots on goal for the Merchants. Little Britain registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
