Clarington survives North Kawartha comeback, wins 5-3

The Clarington Eagles came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the North Kawartha Knights, but did just enough to escape with a 5-3 victory.

Clarington led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Eagles' Justin Holiad scored at 14:11 in the first period to put Clarington up 3-0.

The Eagles were sparked by Jim Allen, who tallied one goal and one assist. Allen scored 1:52 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Clarington. Jarod Hollister assisted on the tally.

North Kawartha was unable to stop Clarington from sending pucks towards the net, and the Eagles eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. Clarington found itself short handed often, totaling 20 penalty minutes and allowing nine power plays.

Clarington also got points from Hollister, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Clarington also had goals scored by Brent Hambly and Joe Lamanna, who each put in one. In addition, Clarington received assists from Brad Down, who had two and Dylan Howorko and Jake Carter, who each chipped in one.

The Knights were helped by Braden McDonald, who finished with one goal. McDonald scored on the power play 1:21 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Clarington. North Kawartha had gotten the advantage when the Eagles' Howorko was sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct. North Kawartha additionally got points from Zack Pearson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. North Kawartha also got a goal from Jacob Rowley as well. More assists for North Kawartha came via Tanner Hamilton, Russell Fontyn, and Jesse Douglas, who contributed one each.

Clarington's Tyler Caruana stopped 23 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Eagles registered one goal on six power play opportunities. James Hack made 36 saves for the Knights on 41 shots. North Kawartha incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
