Cobourg rolls over Burlington, 7-1

The Burlington Cougars had trouble finding ways to stop the Cobourg Cougars, which beat Cougars, 7-1.

Burlington's power play was ineffective against Cobourg's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Cougars were led by Austin Veleke, who grabbed one goal. Veleke scored 2:36 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Cobourg. Rylee McKinnon assisted on the tally.

Cobourg stifled the Cougars' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Cougars forced Burlington goalie Cammeron Radford to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots. Cobourg's goal total was higher than its season average. The Cougars average 3.5 goals per game. Cobourg's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Cougars finished with 24 penalty minutes.

Cobourg also got points from Rory Milne, who also registered one goal and one assist, Connor Armour, who also racked up two goals and one assist, and Taylor Gauld, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Cobourg included Mitchell Gibson and Alex Riche, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Cobourg were Riley Stillman, who had three and Josh Hopkin, Liam Grande, Ryan OGrady, Spencer Holt, Connor Hogg, and Matt Carroll, who each chipped in one.

Stefano Durante rejected 20 shots on goal for Cobourg. The Cougars registered two goals on five power play opportunities. The Cougars' Radford stopped 40 shots out of the 47 that he faced. Burlington incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
