Lindsay rolls over Stouffville, 5-2

The Lindsay Muskies had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-2 win over the Stouffville Spirit.

Joseph Vocino had two goals to lead Lindsay to victory. Vocino scored on the power play at 10:36 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Lindsay and again while on the power play 1:56 into the third to make the score 3-0 Lindsay.

The Muskies' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. Lindsay had been averaging 19.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Muskies forced Stouffville goalie Conor McCollum to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Lindsay also got a goal from Logan DeNoble as well. In addition, Lindsay received assists from James Allen, Owen Barnett, Mathew Lewis, Brandon Washer, Jack Scanlan, Stuart Fierheller, and Austin Eastman, who contributed one each.

The Spirit were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. Stouffville surpassed its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. The Spirit kept Lindsay's goalie busy throughout the game, and Boyd Diclemente made 35 saves on 37 shots.

Stouffville was led by Alex Gilmour, who racked up one goal. Gilmour scored on the power play 15:23 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Lindsay. A hooking penalty on Sean McLaren had put the Spirit on the power play. Brodie Tutton provided the assist. Nathan Hudgin also scored for Stouffville. Other players who recorded assists for Stouffville were Nick Thomakos, who had one.

The Muskies registered three goals on seven power play opportunities. Lindsay ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cameron Stajer was ejected from the game. McCollum rejected 28 shots on goal for Stouffville. The Spirit registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. For Stouffville, Tyson Bruce was ejected from the game.
