Newmarket rides Ryckman to victory over St. Michaels, 3-1

Connor Ryckman stood on his head and made 26 saves to lead the Newmarket Hurricanes to a 3-1 victory over the St. Michaels Buzzers.

Newmarket was led by Ryan Shaw, who racked up one goal and one assist. Shaw scored 12:03 into the third period to make the score 2-0 Newmarket. Ryan Young provided the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 6:22 into the third period. Three fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

The Hurricanes stifled St. Michaels' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Newmarket forced the Buzzers goalie George Argiropoulos to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

Newmarket also got points from Joseph Mizzi, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Newmarket also got a goal from Sam Hu as well. More assists for Newmarket came via Adam Smith, who had one.

St. Michaels racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 43 minutes in penalty time. The Buzzers surpassed its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. St. Michaels excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances.

The Buzzers were led by Scott Teskey, who scored the team's only goal. Teskey scored 16:10 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Newmarket. Matt Pepler picked up the assist.

The Hurricanes ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Team's Justin Wain and Brett Thomson were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. George Argiropoulos made 32 saves for St. Michaels on 34 shots. The Buzzers registered zero goals on three power play opportunities. For St. Michaels, A.J. Dorazio was ejected from the game.
