Newmarket rips North York, 3-0

The Newmarket Hurricanes had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 3-0 win over the North York Rangers.

Newmarket was paced by Anthony Salemi, who racked up one goal. Salemi scored on the power play 16:34 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Newmarket. A checking from behind penalty on Matthew Whittaker had put the Hurricanes on the power play. Mitchell Duggan picked up the assist.

Newmarket stifled North York's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Rangers were unable to stop the Hurricanes from sending pucks towards the net, and Newmarket eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

Others who scored for Newmarket included Dallas Baird and Jacob Piltzmaker, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Newmarket were Christian Dedonato, Ryan Young, and Joseph Mizzi, who each chipped in one.

North York was held below its usual level of production. The Rangers put an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game.

Connor Ryckman recorded 23 saves for the Hurricanes. Newmarket incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Gianluca Baggetta made 32 saves for North York on 35 shots. The Rangers incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. North York ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Whittaker was ejected from the game.
